Step 5: Base Settings
Since you will need to create multiple Auto Blogs in order to reap the benefits of their ability to
make money, it is best to have a system for building your Blogs. I talked in the previous Step
about using tools like Backup Buddy or WP Supervisor to manage and keep your Blogs up to
date, not to mention creating Profiles where the Settings are the same for each Auto Blog you
Setup. Itdoesn’tmatterifyouautomatethisorifyouwriteitdownonapieceofpaper,aslong
as you can expedite the process. Youdon’twanttobe“figuringitout”eachandeverytimeyou
create a new Blog.
I am going to briefly outline the Settings you should set for your Auto Blogs
as a Base and then I will go over them in finer detail in the Videos below.
(a Free
Plugin by iThemes), upload it to your Blog and Activate it. Then, go to the ServerBuddy link in
your Menu. After you click it, you should see the Current Status of the Server you are
on. Ensure that all icons are Green and that you are on a Hosting account that is Optimized for
WordPress and the Plugins you want to run. (**If You have one or 2 items in the Red, please
check their relevance as some are not Critical. PHP Memory and Timeout Settings are essential

General Settings:
FillinYourBlog’sTitleandTaglinehere. If you are not going to use a Graphic
Logo, ensurethatyourBlog’s Title is focused on your Primary Niche Keyword/s, but keep it
short and sweet. It will be the first thing your visitors see when they come to your site, so
remember that. Along with your Tag line announcing why your Visitors should be there. An
SEO focused Title is important right from the beginning. That being said, the Main SEO Settings
will be adjusted with the SEO Plugin in the next Step. I recommend allowing anyone to Register
on the site. Comments are great for repeat visits. Some Auto Blogs you create, you might not
want this, so use it judiciously along with the SPAM filter outlined in Step 6. Always set your
blog up with the ”www”infrontofyourDomainNameasopposedtojustleavingitas
“”. lwayschangeitto“”becausewhen
Optimizing for SEO we want to ensure the proper Canonical URL is used as this keeps your site
from having duplicate content based simply on whether someone came to your Domain via
your-blog-name-here.cominsteadofusingthe“www”. Finally, put in an email address that you
want to be emailed at for issues and comments with your blog. You do want to use a valid
email address here.
Writing Settings:
In your Writing Settings there are only two things I worry about. Setting up
Remote Publishing if I am going to use a remote posting tool like Blog Hatter, Live Writer,
etc. The most important thing here is inputting your Update Services or Ping List as most
people call it.
DO NOT Over Ping!!
Here is the Ping List that I personally use for all of my sites
below. Youwillnoticethatitisn’tverybig. The reason is that most of the Ping Services listed
will Ping other Update Services. By using this small list, you will actually Ping a lot of services,
butyouwon’tbeSpammingthem which is very important. Especially when you are talking
about the volume of Posts that we will be using with an Auto Blog. There are other tools that
help manage this that I will talk about in the next Step.
(This can be Downloaded in the Download Section also.)
Reading Settings:
In your Reading Settings you have the Option to have your Auto Blog just
show the latest posts or to have a Static Home Page. I recommend having a Static Home Page
and then Creating another Page for your Blog Posts. I will go over this more in the Video
below. I have a Plugin that will help you manage how many Posts are shown on each Blog
Section (i.e. Archives, Search, etc.). Each type of Auto Blog is different, but you need to decide
how many posts are going to be shown per page here. For your Feed Settings, I show at least
the last 8-10 Posts. I use Full Text Summaries and I also use the SEO Plugin to ensure I get
credit for the post if someone is scraping my content and re-using it on another site.
Discussion Settings:
Do Not use Paging in You Comments. I like to use Comments to enhance
return visits and as I said before, I like to answer comments too if I can to get people to come
back or I refer them to another one of my sites. I use Akismet or the WP Spam Free Plugin,
which are listed in Step 6 to fight Bots and SPAM, so most of the settings here should be
adjusted based on how your Blog is being setup and what your overall Plan of Action is in the
context of Comments and Discussion.
Privacy Settings:
Make sure you go here and check to see if your Privacy Settings are on. With
the new installs of WordPress, some are defaulting to Privacy Settings. Make sure you enable
Search Engines to see your site, but only after you are ready to start posting to your blog.
Permalink Settings:
This is one of the most important Settings on your Blog for SEO. Ensure
you click on the Custom Settings check box here and then enter:
You will want
to only use the Postname for Your Auto Blogs. This is important as it affects how the Googlebot
will see your blog Post and Page links and Index them. Make sure this is done before you Post
any Content or go on to using any SEO Plugins or Affiliate Plugins. YourBlog’s.htaccessfilewill
settings here.
Installation Cleanup:
The Next thing you need to do is to change the“
to a base name like Admin or Updates (if you know your Category structure already, then you
can change it to your first or Primary Category). Then go to the Edit Posts Tab and Delete the
default“HelloWorld!”Postthatalwayscomes with WordPress. You can then Post a very
generic Coming Soon Post with something very general about your site. Some Black Hatters do
in different ways, thinking because the site is new, there might not be any security on it
yet. YoucankeepthisfromhappeningthiswayandalsohaveyourBlogonit’swaytobeing
